# Pinterest marketing for Etsy sellers: how to use Pinterest to bring buyers to your shop

Pinterest is where your future buyers collect gift ideas, wedding plans and room makeovers. An Etsy shop plays by slightly different rules there than a store on its own website, and those rules decide how you set up, what you pin and how you measure it.

## Is Pinterest worth it for Etsy sellers?

**The short answer:**

Yes, for shops with visual products people plan around. Use a free business account, add your shop link to your profile, and pin each listing several ways with titles in the words buyers search. You cannot claim an Etsy shop or add Pinterest's tag to it, so measure with **outbound clicks** in Pinterest and the **Social media** source in Etsy Stats. Expect results over months, not days.

Etsy's own search shows your listing to people who already know what they want. Pinterest reaches them earlier, while they are still collecting ideas for a gift, a nursery or a wedding.

That earlier moment is the point. Nearly all top searches on Pinterest, 96% by [its own count](https://business.pinterest.com/audience/), are unbranded, so a buyer looking for "personalized dog mom gift" is open to any shop with the right pin. Pins also stay findable for months, which suits a small shop that cannot be promoting every day. If you are still deciding whether Pinterest deserves your time at all, our [small business playbook](https://pinterestmarketingstrategies.com/pinterest-marketing-for-small-business/) compares it with other uses of a few hours a week.

## What is different for Etsy shops

Most Pinterest advice, including our guide to [Pinterest for online stores](https://pinterestmarketingstrategies.com/pinterest-marketing-for-ecommerce/), assumes you own your website. On Etsy you don't, and four things change.

| On your own website | On Etsy | What to do instead |
| --- | --- | --- |
| You [claim the domain](https://help.pinterest.com/en/business/article/claim-your-website) and your pins carry your profile | You cannot claim an Etsy shop: Pinterest needs a domain whose code you can edit | [Add your shop link](https://help.pinterest.com/en/article/add-your-website) to your profile, and claim your own site if you also have one |
| The Pinterest tag records sales | You cannot add the tag's code to Etsy pages | Read sales in Etsy Stats, clicks in Pinterest Analytics |
| A [catalog](https://help.pinterest.com/en/business/article/before-you-get-started-with-catalogs) puts every product on Pinterest | Catalogs require the tag on your own website | Pin listings one by one, or with a tool that reads your listing links |
| Shopping ads promote catalog products | No catalog, so no shopping ads for Etsy listings | Grow organically first; Etsy may already advertise your listings through Offsite Ads |

None of this stops Pinterest from working for Etsy. It means organic pins do the heavy lifting, and your measurement happens on both sites. If you outgrow these limits and open your own store, the playbook for [Shopify stores on Pinterest](https://pinterestmarketingstrategies.com/pinterest-marketing-for-shopify/) shows what the extra control gets you.

## Set up Pinterest for your Etsy shop in under an hour

1. **Create a [business account](https://help.pinterest.com/en/business/article/get-a-business-account)**, or convert your personal one. It is free and adds Analytics and the scheduler.
2. **Name the profile for buyers.** Your shop name plus what you make: "Wren & Co | Handmade Ceramic Mugs".
3. **Add your shop link.** In Pinterest, open Edit profile and enter your Etsy shop URL under Website.
4. **Connect Pinterest in Etsy.** Etsy's [Social Media tool](https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360035903014-How-to-Promote-Your-Etsy-Shop) lets you link your accounts and share listings straight from the Listings page.
5. **Create five to ten boards** named after searches, then pin your best listings to them.

Sharing from Etsy is a quick start. The pins that reach new buyers, though, are usually the ones you make on purpose for a search, which is the next section. The goals, keywords and monthly review around them follow [the same seven-step strategy](https://pinterestmarketingstrategies.com/) as any business on Pinterest.

## What to pin from your shop

Treat each listing as the source for several pins, each one built for a separate search and linking back to that listing.

| Pin | Example for a candle shop | Why it works |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **In use** | The candle lit on a bedside table | Answers "cozy bedroom decor", not just "candle" |
| **Gift angle** | The candle wrapped, with a card | Catches "gifts for her" and "housewarming gift ideas" |
| **Occasion** | A set for autumn or the holidays | Seasonal searches start weeks ahead |
| **Process** | Pouring wax, a short behind-the-scenes clip | Handmade buyers like seeing how it is made |
| **Close-up** | Label, texture, scent notes | Answers the questions that hold back a purchase |

Write pin titles in the words buyers type into Pinterest, which are often broader than your Etsy tags: "minimalist ceramic mug" rather than your listing's full title with every variant. Keep them consistent with the listing, though, because a pin that promises one thing and lands on another loses the click.

Pin your listings as part of a wider mix: [a content strategy with pillars](https://pinterestmarketingstrategies.com/pinterest-content-strategy/) gives you a reason to post beyond "new item", such as gift guides, styling ideas and care tips.

## Boards and timing

Name boards after what buyers search, not your shop sections: "Personalized Wedding Gifts" works, "Spring Collection" does not. A typical Etsy shop needs boards for product categories, occasions (birthdays, weddings, Mother's Day) and recipients (gifts for dad, teacher gifts). Our [guide to planning Pinterest boards](https://pinterestmarketingstrategies.com/pinterest-board-strategy/) covers how many to start with and when to use sections.

Timing is where Etsy sellers win or lose on Pinterest. Use [Pinterest Trends](https://trends.pinterest.com/) to see when searches for your seasons start rising, then publish before that rise rather than on the day. A holiday gift pin that goes up the week before Christmas has very little time left to be found.

## Measuring sales without the Pinterest tag

Without the tag, no single report shows "Pinterest sales". Two sources together get you close:

- **[Pinterest Analytics](https://help.pinterest.com/en/business/article/pinterest-analytics)**: outbound clicks per pin, the number of visits you sent to Etsy.
- **Etsy Stats**: the [Social media traffic source](https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/115015628207-Shop-Stats-Glossary), which Etsy defines as visits from Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and other social sites through your accounts, organic sharing, and Etsy's Offsite Ads on those platforms. Select it to see the specific pages buyers came from.

Because Etsy's Social media figure mixes several networks and its own ads, track the trend rather than the exact number: if your outbound clicks double and social visits and orders rise with them, Pinterest is working. Our guide to [picking one Pinterest KPI](https://pinterestmarketingstrategies.com/pinterest-kpis/) includes a simple monthly report you can fill in from both screens.

## Etsy Offsite Ads and fees

Etsy runs its own [Offsite Ads](https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000338367-How-Etsy-s-Offsite-Ads-Work) programme, placing listings on search engines, social media and partner sites. You pay nothing up front; Etsy charges a fee only when a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys from your shop within 30 days.

| Your shop's sales in any 365 days | Offsite Ads fee | Can you opt out? |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Always under $10,000 | 15% of the sale | Yes |
| $10,000 or more at any point | 12% of the sale | No |

The fee never exceeds $100 per order. It applies to Etsy's ads, not to your own pins, so pinning your listings yourself does not trigger it. It does explain why Etsy Stats can show social traffic you did not create.

## Tools for Etsy sellers, ranked

Start free: Etsy's Social Media tool shares listings, and Pinterest's [scheduler](https://help.pinterest.com/en/business/article/schedule-pins) books pins up to 30 days ahead. Tools help when pinning by hand starts eating into making. We ranked the options that work with Etsy using the five weighted criteria from our full tools comparison: work done for you, Pinterest search, how well built for Pinterest, value and getting started. We checked every price on the vendor's own site on November 5, 2026.

| Rank | Tool | How it works with Etsy | Price from |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **1** | [SiteToSocial](https://www.sitetosocial.com/) | Takes a list of your listing links, picks searches from Pinterest data, writes and designs pins from your listing photos and posts daily | [$10 per website a month](https://www.sitetosocial.com/#pricing), $9 billed yearly |
| **2** | [Alura](https://alura.io/) | Connects to your Etsy shop, pins new listings on its own, maps shop sections to boards, re-pins your most viewed listings with a fresh photo | [$179.99 a year](https://alura.io/pricing) (Growth, 15 pins a day) |
| **3** | [Pin Generator](https://pingenerator.com/) | Syncs Etsy products to generate pins in batches | [$23.99 a month](https://pingenerator.com/pricing) on offer |

**SiteToSocial at #1 for Etsy: the reasons:**

[SiteToSocial](https://www.sitetosocial.com/) takes Etsy shops through a list of listing links, since Etsy shops have no sitemap you can hand over. From there it does the parts that decide whether a pin is found: it picks the phrase for each pin using monthly search volume from Pinterest's ads data, writes the title, description and alt text, designs the pin from your listing photos and files it on a board named after that search. New Pinterest accounts warm up over 12 days; after that it publishes as many as 15 pins daily via the official Pinterest API. At $10 a month, or $108 a year billed yearly, it costs less than Alura's Growth plan, the cheapest Alura plan that includes Pinterest, and the first 14 days are free with no card needed.

Alura's advantage is the shop connection: it watches your Etsy shop, so new listings are pinned without you adding links, and its plan bundles Etsy research and listing tools many sellers already want. If you list new items every day and do not want to touch a link list, that convenience can be worth the higher price. Pin Generator suits sellers who want batches of pins generated from a synced product list.

## Questions people ask

### Is Pinterest good for Etsy sellers?

For most handmade, vintage, craft supply, print and gift shops, yes. People plan gifts, weddings, homes and projects on Pinterest weeks ahead, and pins keep being found for months. It needs steady effort and patience, and it suits shops with good photos better than shops selling things nobody plans.

### Can you link your Etsy shop to Pinterest?

You can add your shop link to your Pinterest profile under Edit profile, and Etsy's Social Media tool can connect your Pinterest account to share listings. What you cannot do is claim an Etsy shop as your website on Pinterest: claiming needs a domain whose code you can edit, which marketplace shops do not give you.

### Do Etsy sellers pay a fee on sales from Pinterest?

Not on sales from your own pins. Etsy charges its Offsite Ads fee, 15% or 12% capped at $100 per order, only when a buyer clicks one of Etsy's own ads and buys within 30 days. Sales from pins you published yourself are not Etsy ads.

### Where do I see Pinterest traffic in Etsy Stats?

Under the Social media traffic source. Etsy's glossary says it covers visits from Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and other social sites through your accounts, organic sharing, and Offsite Ads on those platforms. Pinterest Analytics shows the outbound clicks on your side, so compare the two each month.

### How often should Etsy sellers pin?

Regularly, every week, with new images rather than the same listing photo again and again. Pinterest warns against duplicate pins. A few fresh pins a week by hand is a fine start; tools can post every day once you know which listings earn clicks.

### What is the best Pinterest tool for an Etsy shop?

On our ranking, SiteToSocial, for keyword-led designed pins at $10 per website a month. Alura is the best Etsy-only alternative, because it connects to your shop and pins new listings without you adding links.
